Falls are a leading cause of ill health and death in old people. In Hong Kong alone, one out of five elderly aged 65 or above fall every year, and 75% of those who fall sustain injuries including, but not limited to, broken bones and head trauma. When an elderly person sustains a fall, their injuries handicap them and prevent them from acquiring help, such as getting to their phones to call 911.

This project addresses tomato plant diseases that often go unnoticed by casual gardeners. Many people struggle to recognize plant issues, which can harm their crops. Our user-friendly mobile app detects common diseases by analyzing photos taken by users. Utilizing image recognition technology, it identifies problems like wilting and blight, empowering everyday citizens to care for their tomato plants effectively and enjoy healthier yields, even without gardening experience.

This project uses a Jetson Nano and camera module to perform real-time object detection, aiming to assist visually impaired individuals in identifying nearby objects. By leveraging deep learning models, the system can detect and classify objects within the camera’s view. Its compact, affordable design enables continuous environmental monitoring, enhancing spatial awareness. This solution offers a practical step toward developing accessible, intelligent tools that support safer, more independent navigation for the visually impaired.

Anxiety and high stress levels are prevalent in urban environments, just like Hong Kong. Statistics show that 44.7% of Hong Kong university students face anxiety issues. Every year, 120,000 lives are lost to overwork and stress. Stress that festers into heart disease, strokes, and accidents. Students are sacrificing sleep, friendships, and joy due to high stress. Within classrooms, students are unable to focus, worrying about upcoming deadlines and the vast amounts of extracurricular activities that they need to complete. Students overwhelmed in class usually daydream (overthink), or fidget, and lose attention within class. Teachers who don't understand the underlying issue of the students usually scold students for natural responses to high-stress environments. Students’ anxiety levels usually grow higher due to the overreaction of teachers. Students want to be heard and understood; therefore, allowing teachers to recognise issues in the first place is very important.

Many adults with special needs struggle with speech impairments. With the use of finetuned Whisper, we built an Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) system that converts dysarthric speech into accurate text. Using multilingual acoustic transfer learning based on English and Italian dysarthric speech datasets, we trained Whisper on 15,000 samples.
